So last weekend was the Final Fantasy XI Fan Festival. Fan Fest is an event for fans and players of the Final Fantasy XI MMORPG. I was an avid player of the game for about four years time for those of you that don't know. I attended last year's event and had such a great time that even though I no longer play the game I decided to attend.
I didn't think anyone I knew was attending but I was fine going solo, however I ended up bumping into quite a few people I knew and met some super fun peeps from my old server that live in the area. yay team. Hey Kroww and Jenenibui! :D
The event was much better than last years. The venue they chose for 2006 was awful. It looked good on paper, The Santa Monica Pier, but in reality it didn't work out so well. It was freezing cold, windy, the restroom situtation was atrocious, and we ended up bothering a lot of businesses in the area with the Live Quest event.
This year it took place at the Anaheim Hilton at the convention center. The Hilton has these upstairs ballrooms which were great to host the event in. Parking was a breeze, even if it was $10, restrooms aplenty (yay for being a female at a predominately male event), air conditioned, and Starbucks was at the bottom of the escalator. Score!
To keep us gamers busy there were carnival games, two new playable jobs Scholar and Dancer (omg awesome), two boss battle matches, Live Quest (chain of quests to do with a group where you talk to "NPCs"), developer panels, cosplay contest, art contest, machinima contest, and a concert on Saturday night.
It was great fun, hope they do it again next year.
